Update from the Council on Cultural Appropriation in Wearable Arts

The Juneau Arts and Humanities Council would like to acknowledge the community conversation that has developed around the topic of cultural appropriation in Wearable Art “Molten” 2018. The board and staff appreciate the constructive feedback that has been shared via personal conversations, email, text, and telephone.

The JAHC is working diligently to address these issues and is thankful for the many community leaders who have already stepped forward with offers to assist in navigating towards growth and development. The volunteer JAHC board will convene for its monthly meeting on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 5 pm.  At that time, an organizational course of action will be determined and shared with the community subsequently.

The JAHC is a community organization that has been actively seeking equity in the arts and has a road map in the Diversity and Inclusivity Task Force report issued in 2017. It is our sincere hope that this will be a catalyst for improvement within the organization and the community at large. We invite you to join us in this effort.

Thank you for your support for the arts in Juneau.
