JAHC offers Teaching Artists Academy series

If you are a professional artist who is interested in teaching your art form to school-aged students in a classroom setting, please consider signing up for this professional development opportunity.  Artists who complete the series will be eligible to apply for placement on local and state Teaching Artist Rosters, and be qualified for in-school residency contracts in Juneau and other Alaskan communities.  JAHC hosts the Artists In Schools program through grant funding from the Alaska State Council on the Arts  which provides school matching grants to contract for residencies from artists listed on the rosters.

This summer the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council, in coordination with Alaska Art Education Consortium and the University of Alaska: Southeast are combining the Teaching Artists Academy with AAEC’s Basic & Beyond Arts Institute, week one, followed by UAS’ inaugural year of ‘The Rainforest Series,’  week two,  Indigenous Arts Embody Living History.

This is a unique opportunity for all levels of teaching artists, to make connections and learn with local certified teachers enrolled in the Basic & Beyond.  Teachers and artists will be able to draw upon one another’s knowledge to create arts integrated lesson plans ready to be taught in classrooms.
