CALL FOR ARTISTS: Wearable Arts Extravaganza 2017: Renaissance
The Juneau Arts & Humanities Council invites artists to create a piece of wearable art for the 2017 Wearable Arts Extravaganza, Renaissance. Deadline for applications/registration is December 15, 2015 at 5pm.
To enter Wearable Art 2017, artists need to apply online via a form here, pay a $40 registration fee (payable at the JACC, Hearthside Books, via phone at 586-2787, or online at www.jahc.org), and email sketches/photos to meghan@jahc.org. Hard copies are acceptable as well, deliverable to the JACC.
This year’s show takes place on February 11th and 12th, 2016 at Centennial Hall. We are joined by Margeaux Ljungberg as Wearable Art 2017 Director, and Akiko Nishijima-Rotch as Wearable Art 2017 Set Designer. The runway set up will be similar to last year – a zig zag that runs the length of Centennial Hall, with slight modifications as needed. A panel of judges will jury the show for the artists who choose to participate. Winners of the juried show will be awarded cash prizes. All entries will continue to be judged by popular vote both performance nights, as in previous years.
An artist orientation and info session with the Director, Set Designer, and JAHC staff will be held at the JACC on Tuesday, December 20, at 5:30 PM in the JAHC Gallery. We encourage all interested and participating artists to come meet this year’s production team. It is an excellent opportunity to ask questions, check on artist registration requirements, and get a feel for the show.
Please note that all artists who are registered before November 15 are invited to an early seat purchase event at the JACC on November 15. This event is invitation only. Tickets for JAHC members will go on sale December 1, 2016, and open up to the general public on January 15, 2017.
Proceeds from Saturday’s show help support the Juneau Arts & Culture Center improvements, and proceeds from Sunday’s show help fund the JAHC’s Fine Arts Scholarship program. The event includes a different Silent Auction for each performance.
