The Alaska Airlines Student Concert Series at UAS is proud to present Von Grey, live in concert. Atlanta-based alt-rock group VON GREY is anything but a stereotypical pop trio. Made up of classically trained sisters – VON GREY takes a multi-instrumental approach to deliver cinematic, imagery laden dark electronic-based music. Their alternative anthems, driven by unapologetically pop hooks, have been described by Pop Matters as, "strange, ethereal pop music, unencumbered by genre." This event is free and open to the community.

Local art educator Daniel Todd will lead a free mask activity. Masks have been an important art form of human culture for over 9000 years. Our fascination with disguising one's face can be seen in old traditions like Halloween. Using a paper-mache base, students will have the opportunity to design and create a mask of their own using strong art elements, principles of design, and a variety of materials. Inspiration will be found by looking at the history and purposes of different cultures where mask making was important to the expression of the people. Students are encouraged to bring a few small objects like feathers, fabric scraps, leaves, or twigs that they would like to incorporate into their masks. Call the Museum at 465-2901 to register. Free, but registration is recommended. Call 465-2901 to register.

"Write For Your Life" group, 10-11am every Wednesday, Mendenhall Valley library. Share a journal, memoir, a letter or poetry. Details: Dixie, 789-2068.
The Pillars of America speaker series presented by Juneau Glacier Valley Rotary brings to Juneau’s youth and the general public distinguished American citizens who share relevant personal experiences shaped by the freedoms offered in our country or as a result of their endurance through difficult circumstances. This week’s speaker Joe Torrillo was a Lt in the NYC Fire Department on 9/11, when he was scheduled to be giving a presentation rather than being on duty. When the call came in he quickly rushed to the site, and ended up being buried not once but twice - and survived. He talks about his experiences, reminds us all what happened that day, and speaks on patriotism and the importance of supporting those who serve. Lunch is included and early arrival is recommended for the best seating. Hearthside Books Locations https://portal.clubrunner.ca/912/
