RE: Juneau Arts & Humanities Council selects architects for new Arts Complex

The Juneau Arts and Humanities Council (the Council) is pleased to announce that Northwind Architects of Juneau has been chosen to design a new arts complex for Juneau. Northwind is partnering with Hacker Architects of Portland on the design. MRV Architects has been chosen as the alternate.

Kounkouey Design Initiative (KDI), the firm funded to work with the Council by an ArtPlace America grant, facilitated the selection process and public/committee meetings.

The Council recently hosted a public forum as part of the process to select architects for the new Arts Complex being developed and built by the JAHC. The following three finalist firms made presentations at the event:

Jensen, Yorba, Lott
MRV
Northwind

The process included feedback from the community, evaluations from a committee of 20 and, finally, a session with a jury of 11 to determine a winner and an alternate, all facilitated by KDI’s Chelina Odbert.

The Arts Complex will incorporate a renovation of the existing Juneau Arts and Culture Center (JACC), with an extension towards Centennial Hall. Continued collaboration with arts and culture organizations, artists, and the community will ensure a voice from those who will make and experience the arts in the Arts Complex.

The completed Arts Complex will provide theater and gallery spaces, meeting rooms, classrooms, offices for arts and cultural groups, a café, an artisan gift shop, and renovations to the existing JACC building.

Continue your involvement in the design phase by joining public forums hosted by the JAHC and the architects.
