Juneau School District and Juneau Arts and Humanities Council Announce 2017 Elementary Art Exhibit Winners
The Juneau School District and the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council announce the winners of the 2017 All-City Elementary Art Exhibit. The award-winning pieces will be on exhibit in the public libraries this week and then will be displayed at Community Day on Campus on Saturday May 20 from 11 – 3. Artists will be presented with their ribbons at that event at noon, as part of Jazz & Classics Festival, in the Egan Library. The public is encouraged to attend to salute these young artists. This is the Juneau School District’s 12th Annual All-District Elementary Art show, and the 4th collaboration with the Council, Juneau Jazz & Classics, and the University of Alaska SE. The Exhibit highlights the art from every elementary grade level and every school. Each teacher selects two pieces from among the many created in their classroom to represent their class. The collection is displayed by school, in public recognition of the creative and artistic talents of our students. ,
This year, artwork from Auke Bay Elementary, Glacier Valley Elementary, Mendenhall River Community School, and Riverbend Elementary will be exhibited at the Mendenhall Library. Harborview Elementary and Juneau Community Charter School’s artwork will be at the Downtown Library, and Gastineau Elementary’s display will be at the Douglas Community Library. The exhibits will be taken to the University Campus on Saturday, May 20.
The Exhibit is made possible with special support from Cindy Hudson and the Women of the Moose, as well as many volunteers who help collect, mount and transport the artwork.,
The Juneau Arts and Humanities Council and the Juneau School District work together as Kennedy Center Partners in Education and as an Ensuring the Arts for Any Given Child site. This exhibit is among the programs they collaborate on to build the arts in our schools as a way to increase students’ academic success. ,
