Poems Wanted for Seventh Annual Poetry Omnibus

Posted: January 24th, 2012 by Nancy DeCherney

Poetry Omnibus is now accepting entries for the 2012 competition. The deadline for submissions is March 10. Winning poems will be read at a to-be-announced celebration and then displayed on a Capital Transit bus for a full year. There are two age categories; 5th-12th graders and adults over 18 years old. Poems can be on any subject, but must be suitable for public display and not exceed ten lines. One poem may be submitted for free; additional poems may be submitted for $3 each. Entry forms which contain complete rules and instructions for submittals are available on Capital Transit busses, at local libraries, Juneau Arts and Culture Center, the Canvas and Paradise Café.

Poetry Omnibus was originated in 2006 by Kristen Hutchison who also directed it in 2007. In 2008, leadership was taken over by Robyn Holloway who successfully directed the program for three seasons. For this 2012 season, leadership has passed to Ray Tsang. Winning poems will be chosen by a panel of three local poets; Christy NaMee Eriksen, Emily Wall and Jenifer Vernon.  Decisions by the judges are final.

Questions can be directed to PoetryOmniBus@jahc.org or to Richard at 780-6204.
